About The Showcase

The Jr Composer Showcase is a festival showcasing students' personal bests, and they are not ranked against one another as in a competition or contest. The Showcase will help students use their music theory skills to start writing their own creative musical thoughts!  The Showcase provides a complimentary video link to be used in other festivals or contests. We realize that the video requirements for composition contests are sometimes challenging for students and parents. It is a relatively new form of music adjudication, and you are free to use the professional video link for future contests or festivals at no extra charge.

The students are required to submit a hand- written manuscript and a live performance video for the judge's viewing. A computer score can also accompany the hand written score, but the hand written score is the main requirement. If the student would like their comments and medal on the performance day, a video should be submitted with the score one month prior to the performance. If the student opts to wait for comments within a month, then the video of the performance can be used and the medal and comments will be available for pickup about 1 month later. The adjudication is based on a report card style for meeting certain items on a rubric. The medals are awarded according to the traditional grading system A, B, C or 70-79 is bronze, 80-89 is silver, and 90-100 is gold. The medallions are made from faux metals.
